The Bowie Dick test is a special air removal test used for steam quality testing of pre-vacuum type steam sterilizers in a steam sterilization cycle. The Bowie-Dick is a verification of the steam quality test, which is used to determine the effectiveness of removing residual air from the vacuum system of a steam sterilizer to ensure full steam penetration.

The Bowie-Dick test card is a multi-layer paper sheet wrapped in packaging paper, which contains an inner paper load with a chemical indicator ink sheet in the center.
